L. Karen Darner, former Delegate for the 49th District of Virginia, has endorsed Katie's candidacy for the Arlington County Board. Darner, who was elected to the House of Delegates in 1991 and served until 2004, is an educator and distinguished leader and advocate for women and families throughout the Commonwealth.
In addition to her service in the General Assembly, Karen's leadership includes twelve years on the Virginia Commission on Youth and a two-year term as chair of Virginia's Council on the Status of Women, appointed by Governor Mark Warner. In Arlington, Darner served on the Arlington's Commission on the Status of Women and Planning Commission when Federal Title IX came into existence and served as the first co-coordinator of Arlington's Rape Victim Companion program.
"I'm proud to support Katie Cristol's candidacy for the Arlington County Board," Darner said. "During a transitional time for Arlington County, Katie will be an energetic advocate for our shared Democratic values. Her candidacy offers both the enthusiasm and background to champion our liberal vision throughout Arlington - outstanding schools, diversity, smart growth and community engagement - in the years to come."
